Frequently Asked Questions

1. The height adjustment mechanism doesn't work. What can I do?

After assembling the chair ensure the push-in fitting for the lift mechanism is seated properly by sitting down heavily on the seat.

To adjust the swivel chair height the right hand lever (when you are sitting on the chair) must be pulled firmly upwards while there is no weight on the seat.

If the lift mechanism still does not raise the seat you can help pull up the seat the first time. The best way to do this is to put your feet on the 5-star base on the ground, pull the lever with one hand and the seat upwards with the other.

2. How do I mount the wheels on the base of my chair?

The wheels are factory fitted with a small split ring washer. This clamps the castor pin firmly in place. The pin must be inserted completely into the locating hole in the base.

It is best to lay the base on its back in order to push the castor wheels into place from above. Hold the base firmly on the floor by one of its arms. With the other hand, take a castor wheel and place the pin at a slight angle to the locating hole on the base. Now press the castor pin firmly into the hole, twisting back and forth as you do so, until the pin is completely inserted. The twisting motion presses the split ring together and this makes it easier to insert. In difficult case you may also wish to grease the pin a little.

3. How can I take my chair/stool apart again?

To dismantle, simply follow your installation instructions in reverse order. Basically, only individual adjusting knobs or screws need to be loosened.

4. How does the single-lever tilt on my leather executive chair work?

In this case the lever has two functions. Firstly, the height adjustment and also the tilt function. To activate the "tilt function", the lever must generally be pulled out sideways to release the latch. By pushing it in again, the tilt can be locked. However, this is possible only with the backrest in the upright position. Locking the inclination angle is not adjustable.

5. What is the large adjustable knob in the middle of the seat/mechanism for? What does the KG sign on the assembly drawing mean?

The adjustable knob is used to change the tension on the tilt mechanism of the backrest. Turning the knob to the right increases the tension while turning it left decreases it.

6. The castors are sticking and not spinning freely, what could be the cause?

You should note that the standard castors that are supplied with the chairs are for use on carpet. We recommend using our "Hard Floor Castors" with laminate, cork, and parquet flooring along with a protective mat.

Furthermore, the castors have a safety brake. Someone sitting in the chair releases the brake and allows the castors to spin freely. Without someone sitting in the chair, the castors lock to prevent the chair running away on its own.

7. The backrest does not remain in position or the height adjustment is not maintained.

There are some backrests that can be adjusted for height with a latching mechanism. Slowly pull the backrest upwards (latching positions should be audible) and adjust it to the desired position. Important - if the backrest is pulled all the way to the top end stop, then the latching mechanism is released and the backrest slides downwards back to the starting position. Push downwards on the backrest to ensure it reaches the end stop and then pull it back up again to the desired position.

8. How do I take care of my chair?

The care instructions for each specific model of chair are included with the installation and assembly instructions in the box of the chair.
